DIY: Leaf-Covered Mason Jars

Hey cupcakes! I feel like I haven't done a DIY post in quite some time, so I wanted to share an awesome fall room decor craft with you all today :D My roommate and I made some of these the other day, and they are so cute (and easy to make)! Let's get started!

Image result for leaf mason jars

What You Need
-Any size of mason jar
-Mod Podge
-Some sort of paint brush (I recommend a sponge brush)
-Leaves (you can use real or fake leaves for this!)
-Optional: candle or fake candle

1. Take your leaves and figure out where you want them around the mason jar.

2. Apply the leaves to the mason jar using the Mod Podge. In order to ensure the leaves stay on, I suggest coating the back of the leaf before placing it on the jar and then coating over the entire thing (don't worry - the Mod Podge will dry clear!).

3. Let the mason jar dry for a few hours.

4. Ta-da! Your room decor is ready to be displayed. For an awesome effect, try lighting a candle or fake candle inside the jar :)

I personally think fake leaves work the best for this DIY! :)

8 Creative Halloween Costume Ideas!

Hey cupcakes! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, so I have been thinking about what to dress up as this year (see my costume from last year here!). It took me quite some time to figure out my costume (get excited for a whole post about it!!!!), so I wanted to share some of my favorite costume ideas with you. :) Let's get started!

1. Unicorn - I thought it would be really adorable to be a unicorn, and it would only require you to purchase a headband with ears and a horn (I found some really cheap ones on Pair the headband with your favorite dress or skirt and you are all set! If you didn't want to spend a lot of money, you could even DIY your own ears/horn!

Image result for unicorn headband

2. Random Animals - Onesies are AMAZING for Halloween! Target has so many cute random animals (narwhals, dragons, llamas, etc.) as well as other characters like superheros, Care Bears, etc. After Halloween you can use this as pajamas so why not?!

Image result for target onesies

3. Hogwarts Alumni - If you are a Harry Potter fan and have some props already (like a wand, scarf, etc.), this is perfect for you! All you need to buy is a Hogwarts Alumni sweatshirt and any other Harry Potter items to sport your fav school! ;)

Image result for hogwarts alumni sweat

4. Wednesday Adams - I found so many dresses that are PERFECT for Wednesday Adams, so buy one and braid your hair! :P Or, you can just use a white collared shirt, black sweater, and black skirt!

5. Cat - Lol I have been a cat for many many years, so it is super simple! Either buy or make your cat ears, use eyeliner to draw on some whiskers, and wear all black. Simple yet still cute!

6. Decades - If you want a simple costume, be a 90's, 80's, 70's, etc. person! If you don't have exactly what you need in your closet, check out a thrift store for a really cheap costume.

7. Willy Wonka - I thought this would be an adorable costume! It would probably cost a lot if you weren't very crafty, but it would be a great costume.

8. Arthur - Dress like your favorite meme! :P Find a yellow sweater, make some cute ears, rock some Harry Potter glasses, and pair with jeans.

Recipes: Easy Dips for Apples

Hey cupcakes! I went to an apple orchard this weekend (yaaasss such a fall activity!) and have obviously been eating a lot of apples these past few days. Because a plain apple can get boring real quick, I wanted to share with you all my favorite recipes for apple dips and toppings! Enjoy :)

1. Peanut Butter Yogurt dip - This dip is super delicious and easy to make! All you need is plain yogurt (Greek yogurt works too), peanut butter, and honey. Add a scoop or two of peanut butter into the yogurt container and a squirt of honey. So tasty and full of fall flavors!

Image result for peanut butter yogurt dip

2. Cinnamon Sugar - Instead of just putting cinnamon on your apple slices, I totally recommend making a mixture of cinnamon sugar (2 parts cinnamon, 1 part sugar) to sprinkle on top of sour apples! YUM!

3. Almond Butter - There are so many tasty "butters" that you can get at places like Whole Foods. Almond butter is one of my favs, so I love dipping apples in it!

Image result for almond butter with apples

4. Caramel Dip - You can't go the fall season without having at least one caramel apple, so I recommend either buying some caramel dip from the store or making it homemade. I personally love making a tradition caramel apple :)

How To Style: Autumn Colors

Hey cupcakes! There are many different colors that are "in" for this season, so I wanted to make a lookbook today featuring my three favorites: burnt orange, army green, and burgundy. These colors remind me so much of fall, so I absolutely love how trendy they are right now!

Outfit 1 (Burnt Orange) - To embody this fall color I went for a classic autumn outfit: a sweater and jeans! I paired this simple outfit with some really cute boots, so this outfit is super easy to recreate.

Outfit 2 (Army Green) - I have always been a fan of army green, so I wanted to feature this gorgeous jacket in this outfit. Because the jacket is the star of the show, the plaid shirt won't really been seen much (but it just adds another great touch of fall!). Pair it with some black leggings and knee high boots and your outfit is ready to go!

Outfit 3 (Burgundy) - I think burgundy goes well with denim, so I paired this shirt with a jean jacket. Add some black pants and some cute Keds/Converse, and the outfit is complete :)

My 7 Favorite Fall Products!

Hey cupcakes! My favorite season is totally fall, so I wanted to make a post today about all of my current favorite fall products :) Make sure you let me know what your favorite fall products are in the comment section! <3

1. Pumpkin bagels

Image result for pumpkin bagels

Okay so I never knew that pumpkin bagels were a thing, but I recently tried one at a bagel shop on campus... They are so good! The pumpkin flavor is really subtle, and there are other fall flavors (like cinnamon and nutmeg), so it is literally the perfect fall treat! :)

2. Almond candle from Bath and Body Works

Find this on their website here!

I have always loved the smell of almond paste (even though I don't like the taste of actual almonds haha), so this candle from Bath and Body Works has been my fav recently. It smells SO good and reminds me of the cookies my mom makes over the holidays. Bath and Body Works has a whole bunch of other great fall scents (and the candles themselves are always so cute!), so I would recommend finding your signature scent for the fall.

3. Argan Oil

Image result for maple holistics argan oil

I did a review on Maple Holistics Argan Oil a couple of weeks ago (read that post here), and it has been super awesome for the fall! The weather is starting to get cold, and this product keeps my hair hydrated and beautiful :)

4. Instagram Story autumn stickers

Image result for instagram fall stickers

Lol this is totally random, but I love the Instagram stickers for the fall! They add some much fall fun to my pictures :P

5. Blankets!

Buy this one here!

The fall time is great because it isn't too cold that you're freezing, but you can cuddle up with a blanket while you study! :D I personally love the soft blankets you can get at Target, but there are many other places you can get cozy blankets - find your favorite!

6. Apple Cider Donuts

Image result for apple cider donuts

More food - haha! I am actually not really into donuts, but I have to have a few apple cider donuts in October to get me excited for the season ;) They are best if eaten at an apple orchard or cider mill.

7. Jean Jacket

Image result for jean jacket

When the weather gets cooler, it is essential to have a nice jacket to wear! I have been loving my jean jacket recently, and it is just so perfect for cooler nights.

Recipe: Easy Dorm Room Snacks

Hey cupcakes! If you don't know already, I love to eat. :P The dining hall in my dorm closes at 7 PM, and I ALWAYS find myself looking for food around 9 PM (cuz I gotta give my brain fuel for studying right?!). Today I wanted to share with you all my favorite filling snacks that are cheap and delicious! :) Let's get started!

1. Pretzel sticks dipped in peanut butter - This is by far my favorite snack. All you need is a huge bag of pretzel sticks and a jar of your favorite peanut butter. If you don't share the jar with anyone, just dip the sticks right in! :) If you want to be a little more sanitary, you can spoon some peanut butter out for dipping.

Image result for pretzel sticks in peanut butter

2. Cheese/peanut butter crackers - These are great because there are so many different flavors (so you won't get sick of them), and the packs are the perfect amount of food.

Image result for cheese crackers

3. Granola bars - I know this is really basic, but granola bars are perfect if you actually need some energy at night. Plus, there are SO many different kinds which allows you to always change up the flavors.

Image result for granola bars

4. Chex Mix/Trail mix - There are so many types of "mixes" you can get from the store, and they are perfect for late night snacking!

5. Popcorn - Popcorn is tasty and healthy food to snack on, but PLEASE DO NOT BURN IT because you will literally smell up everything. ;)

Goals for My Junior Year!

Hey cupcakes! Some of you may remember the post I wrote over the summer talking about how important it is to set goals for yourself (read that post here!). The start of my semester has been really hectic and stressful, so I thought it would be important to evaluate my life and set goals for myself to alleviate some of that stress.

1. Find a new job - I have been working at the same office since freshman year of college, and I was at my wits end with its management and all the drama. I decided to quit a few days ago, and I am so excited for my last day on the 11th! I hope to find another place of employment, but I am so content with my decision.

2. Find a way to manage my anxiety - Because this semester has already been so stressful, my anxiety has been pretty bad. I've woken up with panic attacks (which hasn't ever happened), so I need to find a way to cope. I used to do a lot more artsy things (like drawing), so I plan to start an art journal of some sort to manage my anxiety.

Image result for art journal

3. Take daily walks - Over the summer I had a great work out routine (and I actually stuck to it!). Now that I am constantly busy, I feel like I still need to still force myself to find time to at least take a walk around campus.

4. Stop watching YouTube videos - I honoestly think I am addicted to watching YouTube videos, and I know I could be using that time to focus on other important things (like blogging!). I have decided to ban myself from watching YouTube videos to see how this impacts my life for the better.

Image result for youtube

5. Attend church more often - I am actually really good at attending Mass every Sunday, but I really want to work on my relationship with God this semester. Whether it be attending some weekday masses or spending extra time praying, I feel like my religion can be strengthened.

What goals have you set for yourself this year?? Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake! :D

Why I'm Still Angry About Wonder Woman (SPOILERS!)

Hey cupcakes! As many of you might remember, I went to see Wonder Woman in June and wrote a pretty angry review about it (read that post here!). My friends and I went and saw it on my college campus a week or so ago, and I am still really really bitter and angry about the ending. I wanted to share my thoughts in more depths, so here we go (WARNING: don't continue reading if you don't want the ending to be spoiled)!

1. The movie is actually pretty good - As I said in my review, I am not a fan of superhero movies at all. But, this one was good! I didn't find myself being bored a lot, and the plot/characters/everything was really well thought out and executed. So even though the ending sucks, I don't think the whole movie was bad.

2. WHY THE FRICK WAS IT NECESSARY FOR STEVE TO DIE? - Steve plays a really great role in the film, and I love how the directors/producers swapped the traditional gender roles to have Diana be the lead and Steve be her "moral support". Was it necessary to kill Steve off (see next point)?

3. WHY WAS STEVE THE REASON DIANA WON THE FIGHT?! - Throughout the whole film Diana is kicking ass by being an amazing and empowering female. She does what she wants and fights for what she believes in, which makes her such an incredible role model for young girl who watch the film. As she is losing the fight against Ares (and being squeezed to death by a metal tube of some sort), she witnesses Steve dying in the plane explosion. This is what happens:

She yells NO for a long time, goes into a rage because she is so upset about his death, and when Ares tries to use that rage for her to join him, she remembers all of the great memories she had with Steve and tell Ares that she "chooses love" and kills him.

So you're telling me that even though this movie has an amazing female lead, she can't kill the evil guy herself without the love interest (aka Steve) stepping in (in this case dying)?! Why can't Diana kill Ares because she is stronger/more awesome than him without the interference of a guy? What does this teach the young girls who watch the film? That they can't overcome an obstacle without the help of a stronger male force?

4. The movie tries to make it emotional - Because Steve dies, the film tries to evoke emotion from the ending (like awwww poor Diana is all alone now blah blah blah), and even the very end (where Diana looks at the picture of Steve before telling the audience why she continues to save the world), IT ALL REVOLVES AROUND HIM. Why?! Why can't she want to save the world because of what she believes in (like she did for most of the movie)?

5. It's not just me - After hearing all these great reviews about the movie, I thought I was the only one who thought this. I looked up the plot line on Wikipedia to see if I had misunderstood the ending, but this what is says:

"Steve pilots the bomber carrying the gas to a safe altitude and detonates it, sacrificing himself. Ares attempts to direct Diana's rage and grief at Steve's death by convincing her to kill Maru, but memories of her experience with Steve cause her to realize that mankind has good within it. She spares Maru and redirects Ares' lightning into him, killing him."

Legit what I think. Even after my friends watched it, they also agreed that the ending kinda sucked in being female empowering.

Alright, sorry for the large rant... Let me know what you think about the ending of Wonder Woman! Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake!

Storytime: I'm a Wizard?!

Hey cupcakes! I wanted to do a fun post today, so I thought I would share this pretty funny story with you all that happened to me recently. Let's get started!

Okay so I am already SO busy with school.... I have six exams the first week of October, plenty of homework to do, and at least 3 group projects going each week. :/

Image result for fun gif

Last weekend I wanted to have an uber productive day on Saturday because I didn't have anything else going on. I started my day studying in my dorm at 9 AM until lunch, and then I decided to change it up and venture to a library across campus. It was like nine hundred degrees, so by the time I made it there I was sweating a LOT.

Image result for sweating gif

After five hours at this library, I ate dinner and went to the business school building where most of my classes are (cuz I'm a business major haha). I then stayed there until 10 PM.

Image result for shaking head gif

Fun, right? So by this time I am feeling pretty decent about getting all my work done, but I am so tired and basically brain dead. As I'm going to leave the business school (and mind you there was like NO ONE THERE ANYMORE), I see this other guy coming down the hallway to leave as well.

I didn't really think anything of it, until I hear, "Did you know that this school is the new Hogwarts they had to build after Voldemort destroyed the other one?"

Image result for double take gif

I must have looked super confused/given him a crazy look because then he continued to point out how the lights look like candles and how they had to modernize the school of the next generation of wizarding students....

Image result for are you high gif

I basically was like "Okay, cool bye" and real quick walked the other direction to take the longer route home just so I didn't have to talk to him anymore.

This is honestly the weirdest conversation I've ever had with anyone during my years in college, so I thought I would share it with you all! :P Maybe my school is actually the new Hogwarts haha....

How To Style: Rain Boots

Hey cupcakes! I was totally inspired to do this post because it rained here yesterday, and I noticed that so many people incorporated rain boots into their outfits! It was uber cute, so I wanted to share some of this inspiration with you all. :)

Outfit #1 - Ankle Rain Boots: I found a pair of these at Target over the summer, and I love them! They are easily styled like any kind of boot, but they keep your toes nice and dry when you step in any puddles :P My favorite way to style them is my classic look: jeans, graphic tee, and some sort of jacket. So chic!

Outfit #2 - Knee High Rain Boots: If you are feeling daring, I suggest making your rain boots the focus of your whole look! I paired these bright yellow boots with a Little Black Dress and thought a flannel shirt would look adorable as a faux jacket :) Don't be afraid to make a statement on a rainy day!

Outfit #3 - Rubber Boots: If you don't want to buy specifically rain boots, a lot of boots have rubber bottoms. If you want to be casual on a gross day outside, throw on some leggings and an oversized sweater... Perfect and effortlessly cute!

Review: Maple Holistics Argan Oil

Hey cupcakes! Today I wanted to do a very special post about something I just started to try: Argan Oil! I have heard from various sources (such as Pinterest haha) that Argan Oil is great for your hair, so I wanted to try it out before the cool weather kicks in and my hair starts to get really dry.

Image result for maple holistics argan oil
Buy this oil here

I found this Argan Oil on a website called Maple Holistics. As well as their website, this company also sells through Amazon, and I was attracted to the product because it is 100% pure Argan Oil (so no added anything!). The product was shipped super fast, and it arrived at my dorm in less than a week! :)

The bottle was bubble wrapped to perfection, and the bottle itself had a really great plastic seal on it - there was definitely no chance of oil spilling during shipping! The bottle comes with a stopper attached to the lid, so it is so easy to use!

After receiving my product, I did a bit more research and learned that Argan Oil can actually be used for so many things (these are my fave uses):

-Keeping hair healthy
-Nourishing dry skin
-Fighting acne
-Strengthening nails!

Since my skin has been acting up, I decided to test the oil out on my hair and my face.... And I have LOVED the results! :D

For my hair, I squeeze out 4-6 drops of the oil into my palm and rub it into my hair after I shower. I have noticed that my hair feels a lot smoother to the touch, which is super great! It also intensifies the effect of my natural curls, so it saves me time in the morning when I am getting ready for class. I have only been using it for a little over a week now, so I hope to notice less split ends and healthier hair as I continue this treatement.

For my skin, I like to dampen my face with warm water and then rub on the oil (only about 1-2 drops for my T-zone). Because it is oil (and oil usually causes acne), I was a bit concerned that my sensitive skin would break out even more.... But the opposite seems to be happening! The zits that were on my face when I started went away faster than usual, and my skin is easier to cover up with makeup because the skin around the pimples aren't as dry as usual. The oil goes on really easily, and I hope it will eventually heal my skin for good. :)

Image result for argan oil maple holistics

Overall, I am currently obsessed with this product!!!!! I still have a lot left in the bottle, but I am definitely going to repurchase this when I run out. I also may check out other products by Maple Holistics because I was just so impressed this time. :) Maple Holistics currently offers this really cool Free Sample Program where you can receive free products just by reviewing them! Awesome right?! Make sure you check out this oil and brand too!

My Go-To Study Playlist

Hey cupcakes! Now that the school year has begun, I (unfortunately) have to do homework and study. But, studying comes with a perk: good tunes! I thought I would share my favorite study music with you all, to inspire you whenever you study. Enjoy! :)

So as a quick note, I like to study to music without words (just because the words distract me or I'll sing along). If you haven't tried this out, I would totally recommend! :)

1. The Princess Bride soundtrack - The soundtrack to The Princess Bride is amazing and so calming when I am studying! It is one of my favorite movies, so it of course is one of my fav soundtracks to study to. ;)

Image result for princess bride soundtrack
A Happy Ending is my fave!

2. Swan Lake music - Aside from movie soundtracks, ballet music is so much fun to listen to while I study. It allows me to enjoy some great classical music as I learn.

3. La La Land soundtrack - Some of the songs on this soundtrack are a little too upbeat for me, but I love Mia and Sebastian's theme and the Planetarium song :D So peaceful and pretty!

4. John Williams music - John Williams has some amazing music under his belt!!!!! I don't think I have ever listened to a song composed by him that I haven't liked, so I would recommend checking out some of his greatest hits (I especially love the music from Star Wars and Jurassic Park)!

Image result for john williams soundtracks

5. How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack - This might seem random, but the film score for this movie is so so SO relaxing!

Spotify definitely has some great music to listen to while studying, so I would recommend checking it out whenever you get the chance! :)

The 5 Benefits of Drinking Water

Hey cupcakes! As I write this post, I am feeling really really sick (which totally sucks). Normally my immune system is awesome, but I haven't been drinking my normal amounts of water... I thought it would be fun to write a quick post about the benefits of drinking water. Let's get started! :)

1. Increases energy - Even though I am in college, I drink water instead of coffee. I find that water allows me to keep my energy up during the day (because you are basically fueling your insides with what it is made of).

2. Keeps your body healthy/boosts immune system - (Haha how ironic!) By drinking lots of water, you are able to flush out toxins and bad things in your system, keeping you healthy!

3. Keeps skin clear - I used to get bad acne in middle school, but I found that drinking a lot of water during the day helped alleviate the larger zits!

4. Allows you to be in a positive mood! - If your skin is clear, energy is high, and body isn't sick, what isn't there to be happy about???? Water is a great indirect way to get rid of negativitiy.

5. Saves money - Instead of buying soda, coffee, tea, etc. water saves me a lot of money! It is basically free everywhere you go, so enjoy it!

How to Style ft. Choker Necklaces

Hey cupcakes! Choker necklaces are still super trendy, so I wanted to make a fun lookbook on how to style your favorite choker! :) Let's get started!

Multiple chokers: This is by far my fav way to wear choker necklaces; I think it looks so cute with other necklaces layered with it! The look seems more dressy to me for some reason, so I like to style it with a blouse, kimono (or cardigan), and either a skirt or black jeans. So cute and easy!

One choker: If you only want to wear the "typical 90's choker" (you all know which one I am talking about haha), I suggest styling it with graphic tee, jeans, and your fav sandals.

Statement choker: I have seen some awesome statement chokers, so I suggest wearing a really "bland" outfit to make the necklace pop! Show off your unique style with a choker that embodies you! :)

My Experience: Seeing Nyle DiMarco!

Hey cupcakes! I haven't done a "My Experience" post in quite some time, so I thought I would share my opinions on a talk I got to go to last year. If you don't know who Nyle DiMarco is, he is both the winner of America's Next Top Model and Dancing with the Stars!

Image result for nyle dimarco

He also is deaf and is an amazing inspiration for the deaf community! I was really intrigued to see how his "talk" would work, because he only speaks in American Sign Language. During the event, he stood on the stage and signed, while his interpreter sat in the first row with a microphone translating for him. This was super awesome because it didn't take away from what he talking about.

Image result for nyle dimarco

All in all, I loved his talk!!! He started with his life story (can you believe he wanted to be a math professor!), and he was just so down to earth and hilarious. He was asked to model over Instagram, and he decided to pursue modeling to bring awareness to the deaf community. It was amazing to see how he only chose that path to help other people! <3

Overall, I was so impressed by his presentation. If you ever have the opportunity to see him, I would totally recommend it! :D

Recipe: Beef Stroganoff

Hey cupcakes! As I mentioned in another post, I absolutely LOVE The Pioneer Woman on Food Network (see that post here). I thought her recipe for Beef Stroganoff sounded really tasty, so I made it for my family before I left for college. It was quite easy, so I wanted to share it with you all!

Find original recipe here

What You Need
-1 pound sirloin steak (cut into cubes)
-Salt and pepper to taste
-2 tbsp olive oil
-1/2 diced large onion
-2 diced whole carrots
-8 oz white button mushrooms (stemmed and halved)
-1/2 cup brandy
-2 1/4 cups beef stock
-2 tbsp cornstarch
-1/4 cup sour cream, room temp.
-1 tsp dijon mustard

1. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Heat half of the olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium high heat, add half the meat to the pan and brown it quickly (about 2 minutes).

2. Remove the first batch of meat to a bowl and cook the rest. Remove and set aside.

3. Add remaining olive oil to the pan and add onion, carrots, and mushrooms. Cool until mixture is golden brown (about 5 minutes).

4. Turn off heat and add the brandy and 2 cups beef stock. Stir, scrape the bottom of the pan, and turn the heat to medium-high. Cook to reduce the liquid by about a third (about 3 or 4 minutes).

5. In a small bowl, make a slurry by mixing 1/4 stock and cornstarch witha a fork. Pour into the skillet and cook until the sauce thickens (about 1 or 2 minutes).

6. Turn off the heat. Stir in sour cream and mustard.

7. Add the beef and stir over low heat until the mixture is nice and hot.

8. Serve over cooked noodles! :)

Hey cupcakes! As some of you may know (especially if you are a blogger yourself!), I usually tend to pre-write my posts so that I don't need to stress about writing a post on a certain day and time. I was trying to figure out what to write this post about a few days ago and realized that I haven't done a free write in sooooo long (check out the last one from March here!). I let this random generator pick a topic and wrote for ten minutes..... Today's topic:

Write about a phobia.

Okay, so I literally laughed out loud when this was randomly generated. I really have two big phobias, and it is funny because the second one is really really weird (we will get to that in a second). First, I am afraid of heights (correct phobia name: acrophobia).

This phobia started in middle school when my gym class was tasked with climbing a big giant rope that stretched to the ceiling... I had killer upper body strength back then (I really wish I still did!), so I made it about 3/4 of the way up before I made the terrible decision to look down. It was terrifiying! I was like

and scurried back down and basically never climbed up any ropes again. I am fine with flying on planes and looking out from tall windows, but I can't deal with things like ferris wheels where I can literally plunge to my death.

Secondly, I am afraid of belly buttons (correct phobia name: omphalophobia).

I know I know it is really bizarre, but I HATE the thought that my belly button was once a passageway into my insides. I'm not like super afraid of belly buttons, so I won't like die or freak out if I see one, but I can't deal with touching my belly button because part of me is certain that my finger will end up in my stomach. It is uber weird, but I just had to share with this prompt! ;)
