Seventeen August 2012 Review

*Cover Star: Shay Mitchell
*New Trends: denim has a couple new trends; florals, neons, patterned, and green jeans are totally in! Other trends include head-to-toe color, metallics, tribals, and military inspired.
*Best Article: My favorite article would have to be "Get Pretty Fast" on page 96. This shows you how to do your makeup on a time schedule before school. I will totally be using this in the fall! Overall, this wasn't my fav Seventeen issue because it was mostly about jeans... My school doesn't allow us to wear jeans so it didn't really have much for me in it. Hopefully next magazine will be better! :/

Review: Boots Extract Coconut Body Butter

I was stuck at Target wasting time and I found this body butter. I have seen this in YouTube hauls and I love love LOVE the smell of coconuts so I decided to try it out and do a review on it. It was $9.99 for a 6.7 fl. oz. which I thought was a little much. BUT, my legs tend to be on the dry side and I have never used body butter before so I decided to splurge. :P This body butter is organic (yay go green!) and has cocoa butter and coconut oil in it. It smells DiViNe!!!! I couldn't stop smelling it when I first opened it. I used it after I had shaved in the shower and rubbed it in like lotion. My skin feels great and so soft! It really works!! Overall, the only bad thing I found about this product was the price. I recommend it to all of you! :) <3

How To Make a Crop Top

1. Take an old t-shirt and put it on. Mark where you want to cut.
2. Take off the shirt and lay it flat on the ground.
3. Using a pair of sharp scissors, cut the bottom of the shirt to 'crop' it.
4. Try on and see if you need to cut off anymore.
5. Style your crop top and enjoy! :)

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

Today I felt like baking. I usually do a lot of baking in the summer because I find it fun to do when I have nothing better to do. I finished all my AP Biology homework (I still can't believe I had to do homework during vacation) so I decided to bake so muffins. I used a recipe I found online but I modified it because I didn't have some ingredients. They were so yummy! Here is the low fat muffin recipe:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 18 minutes

Total Time: 28 minutes

  • 1 cup sliced strawberries blueberries
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 large egg white

Mine turned a bit blueish because I used frozen blueberries, but they were still DELICIOUS! :D

How To Make a Charm Necklace

Things You Need:
-metal charm with hole or hoop at top (found at craft stores or Walmart for $2-5)
-necklace chain (buy one or use another necklace's chain)
-pliers (look in dad's toolbox)
-jump ring (found at craft stores or Walmart in the jewelry aisle)

How To Make
Take the jump ring and using the pliers, separate the ends a tiny bit. Slide the hole or hoopbof the metal charm onto the jump ring. Now put the necklace chain inside the jump ring as well. Using the pliers again, close the jump ring. Make sure the chain and charm are inside the ring. You now have a very simple charm necklace!!!!

Making a few of these is a great way to update your jewelry for the coming school year. It is also a lot cheaper than shopping at places like Claire's. :) Enjoy!

Fashion style: Preppy

Preppy is a fashion style that originated in the 1950s as a way to dress in colleges. Usually this style is reflected as the snob who goes to a rich private school, but that is not the case. Many people wear this style and it gives you a nice classical, stylish look.
To dress preppy wear:
-button down shirts
-boat shoes
-polos (collars popped up!)
-Lacoste clothes
-engraved items
-classic jewelry
If dressing preppy, do NOT wear:
-tight shirts
-tight pants
-heavy makeup (less is more!)

One Word; Confidence!

When you are getting dressed in the morning and look in the mirror, how many of you wonder if you look good enough for where you are going? I do! Practically everyone does!!! What we all need is a little confidence. Whatever you put on in the morning is your style. Your personality. Your "you". If you wear what everyone else is wearing because you don't want to not fit in, you're not showing yourself. I've vowed to wear what I love and be myself. If you have to repeat, "I am beautiful" or other fashion mantras in your head to keep the real you coming out, do it to gain the confidence. Even if people pick on you (meanies are out there) let them be your motivators. Inside those gossiping barbie dolls are jealous girls that are afraid to be themselves. Don't be afraid to show your true colors. God made you for a reason. Let's be confident together!!!!! Tomorrow, wear something that expresses who you are. Send me the pics at Jenna.heap@ymail.com!!! :)

*don't get overconfident because this can lead into becoming an arrogant snob*
